All the plans are in place, and you and your spouse have people coming in from a lot of places to once again spend the holidays at your home. Most people will probably be driving, but if you have a mother-in-law who lives out of state, she may be flying in. You'll have to make arrangements to make sure she is picked up and delivered in a timely fashion to your home. If you are trying to decide if you should just call a cab, send your spouse to pick her up, or hire a private car service for the task, here are a few things to help you decide what you should do. 

How busy is it at the airport where she will be arriving?

If the airport is bound to be swarming with travelers, it can make it hard for someone stepping off a plane to make their way to a taxi. Some private car services get special privileges when they arrive at the airport. They may have designated places to park or have curbside parking. Therefore, your mother-in-law can get to her transportation faster than she would if you picked her up or called a cab. Keep in mind also that it may be harder for her to find her way to her transportation in a busy airport, but most private car chauffeurs will go in and locate their intended passengers by holding a sign.  

How long is the drive from the airport to your home?

If it is only a few miles from the airport to your home, you may be able to get by with simply calling up a taxi, and it probably will not make a big deal to your incoming in-law. However, if you live a long distance from the airport, it can be better to enlist the help of a private car service who is going to give your mother-in-law a more comfortable ride to the house. 

How much do you want your mother-in-law to be in the best mood when she arrives?

Family get-togethers with prickly in-laws can grow awkward and uncomfortable really quickly. If you have a mom-in-law who tends to get cranky and hard to deal with when she's not had the best day, it may be best to spring for a private car service to pick her up at the airport. A private car service is bound to be more comfortable and inviting than a regular taxi, so maybe the nice gesture will keep your spouse's mother in good spirits until she arrives.
